UPDATE : Is your job application getting rejected or being ignored?

Due to the number of people applying, we now have to be more selective of who we call forward to interview. With many jobs here attracting a large number of CV’s, yours needs to stand out from the crowd. Here are some tips for how you can get your CV noticed by our team.

Tell us what you can do and why you think you will be a great apprentice? Do you have great customer service skills? Are you good with people? As a Junior Apprentice, you will be expected to answer the phone, book appointments, wash, dry and style hair, along with mixing and applying hair colour. In addition, support the other stylists, maintain cleanliness of the salon as well as ensure that clients are provided with hospitality and the utmost care attention. In return we will provide you with the best training and send you to college for one day a week to obtain your hairdressing qualifications. This is a fantastic opportunity and we are specifically looking for young people who are bright, enthusiastic and ready to take on a challenge. In this fast pace environment you will need to be positive, committed and quick on your feet to be ready to learn from other Stylists as well as attend college.

Here are some of the most common Junior Apprentice CV rejection reasons and some tips to get an interview.

  • Too many spelling mistakes. This shows that the application was done in a rush. We are not looking for copywriters but someone who spell checks what they write, illustrates someone who takes care and pride in what they do.
  • Unable to understand the layout of your CV. Always put your contact details clearly at the top of your CV. It would be great if you could illustrate your education and employment history in reverse chronological order. Label each section so that it can be read quickly. Make use of bullet points instead of long sentences and choose a sensible font that it is no smaller than size 10. Your CV should only be 2 A4 pages long. Get someone to read it for you, a friend, your teacher or your parents. If they can give it the once over and understand what you have written, it will certainly improve your chances for securing an interview.
  • Write a cover note telling us more about you and why you should be considered for interview. Write a few lines about why you aspire to be a hairdresser. This is the chance to sell yourself, without bragging it too much! Ensure your cover note highlights the key skills and requirements you think you have to fulfil the position. Good luck.
